Evidence compiled by CIJA is being relied upon at a landmark trial in Germany against Colonel Anwar Raslan, the first case being brought against a senior member of the Syrian regime. Indicted alongside Ayad al-Ghareeb, Raslan is accused of overseeing the torture of at least 4,000 prisoners before he fled Syria for Europe in late 2012.

Working under the auspices of CIJA, the Daesh Criminal Investigative Unit has been gathering evidence of Islamic State criminality in Iraq since 2015. CNN was granted exclusive access to CIJA's investigators working on the ground in northern Iraq, whose efforts have resulted in two legal briefs identifying dozens of Islamic State members and leaders linked to the persecution of Yazidis.
